Bad looser? Samuel L. Jackson reacted like this when losing an award

This weekend the Tony Awards ceremony was held, the most important award in the American theater industry. During a moment of this award and later on social networks, Samuel L. Jackson captured all the attention, but it was not precisely for gaining recognition. On the contrary: someone else won it and he did not pretend the indifference that caused him.

Here we show you the moment of his viral reaction.

Samuel L. Jackson went viral for his reaction to losing a Tony

The legendary actor who plays “Nick Fury” was nominated at the 2023 Tony Awards, in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Play for his work on “The piano lesson”, by the author August Wilson.

In the end Jackson, who was celebrating his first Tony nomination, did not take the statuette but the interpreter Brandon Uranowitz.

When the winner’s name was announced, the 74-year-old actor barely changed his expression and seemed rather nonchalant. According to some social network users, he even notices how he slightly rolls his eyes, as if it were a sign of annoyance.

Eventually Sam Jackson also applauded with the other performers who were nominated in the category.

Later, the “Pulp fiction” actor presented the award for Best Play with his wife, LaTanya Richardson, who directed him in “The piano lesson.” Taking the microphone, he referred to himself as “Samuel L. ‘It’s an honor to be nominated’ Jackson.”

It’s not the first time

In 1995 the category of the Oscars for Best Supporting Actor faced Paul Scofield, Gary Sinise, Chazz Palminteri, Samuel L. Jackson and Martin Landau, who was the winner and gave a memorable speech that shocked everyone except Samuel L. Jackson.

Academy cameras caught the exact moment Jackson discovers he hadn’t won, speaking to himself and uttering what sounded like a curse. More than 20 years later, the actor said that he was over it and that this moment did not steal his sleep anymore.

Samuel L. Jackson has said that he no longer considers it a measure of success or failure, and that he does not choose roles for the purpose of winning awards, as he told the Los Angeles Times. When offered roles with that idea, he responds “No thanks, I’d rather be ‘Nick Fury‘. Or have fun being ‘Mace Windu’ with a lightsaber in my hand.”
