Anne Hathaway, Oscar-winning actress and 2022 fashion icon

Anne Hathaway crowned style icon in 2022

It was not her first red carpet, and yet, during her Cannes debut for the 75th edition of the festival, Anne Hathaway was the eye-catcher. For the climb of the steps, she appears stunning in an immaculate Armani Privé dress, and adorned with Bulgari jewelry. The American actress is starring from James Gray’s latest filma partly autobiographical account based on the American director’s youth in New York, entitled Armageddon Time and then in the running for the Palme d’Or. Released on November 9, this social drama set in the 1980s in Queens tells the story of a young boy from a wealthy family who, through his friendship with a black teenager his age, from a modest family, comes up against class and racial violence. Heartbreaking in the role of a bourgeois and protective mother, Anne Hathaway, who has already obtained the Oscar for best actress for a supporting role for her interpretation of Fantine in Wretched (2012), has proved that she was, in addition to being a huge movie star, a true fashion icon. Mini-dress with Gucci corset, total Louis Vuitton preppy look or Pink PP jumpsuit signed Valentino, her stay on the Croisette hit the mark. Known for her penchant for elegant and timeless outfits, the actress is transforming her style and making a big fashion comeback. Muse of the Italian jeweler Bulgari and friend of the Valentino fashion house, she infuses audacity and extravagance into her classic wardrobe, as with this bright yellow dress in June at the Bulgari party or this sequined pink Valentino total look associated with XXL platforms during the spring-summer 2023 show of the house.

His role as Andy in the Devil wears Prada sticks to his skin

But the moment of anthology of this revolution takes place during New York Fashion Week, when the Spring-Summer 2023 Michael Kors fashion show. Despite hand-picked guests – Nicky Hilton, Vanessa Hudgens and Venus Williams – it was Anne Hathaway who made the buzz, seated next to US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. A meeting at the top which deliciously echoes the film which propelled the career of the actress. In the Devil Wears Prada (2006), by American director David Frankel, she plays the role of legendary actress Meryl Steep, who plays a fierce fashion magazine editor freely inspired by Anna Wintour. For the occasion, and by the greatest of luck, Anne Hathway reinterprets one of the iconic looks of the film, and wore a fringe, a chocolate crocodile coat matched with Michael Kors branded pumps.

To believe that his character of Andrea Sachs, a young journalist freshly graduated propelled into the cogs of fashion, sticks to his skin. If in the film, the one who likes to be called Andy has trouble getting used to the ruthless world of the women’s press and its many dictates, it is without counting on the help of Nigel (Stanley Tucci). Miranda’s right arm will try to pass on her passion for haute couture, while the film becomes a real show, narrating the transformation of an ugly duckling who has “no style, no sense of fashion” as a little soldier of style. A role which strangely echoes the stylistic evolution of Anne Hathaway, and which continues to inspire the actress. If at her debut at the cinema, the one we discovered in Princess against her (2001) unveiled unflattering looks on the red carpet, she now seduces with each of her appearances, whether on the red carpet or in her films. In Ocean’s 8 (2018), she revisits Andy’s emerald leopard-collar coat with an emerald green python trench coat paired with oversized sunglasses. IN 2021, she offers an edgy version of her cult Chanel look from the film, swapping thigh-high boots for high black and patent cowboy boots. We are now impatiently awaiting the continuation of the fashion rise of this actress with her classic beauty and devastating smile.
