After Aquaman, Jason Momoa Wants to Play a Hairy, Brutal DC Anti-Hero

What if Jason Momoa was unfaithful to Aquaman? The actor could well slip into the costume of another colossus stamped DC: Lobo!

A few weeks ago, James Gunn toyed with DC fans’ nerves by posting an image of anti-hero Lobo on Mastodon. The latter was imagined by designer Keith Giffen and screenwriter Roger Slifer in 1983.

It was enough to panic the Web and lend the new director of DC desires to adapt cinema for this hero.

If such a character were to see the light of day in the cinema, who better than Jason Momoa to embody it? With his build, his beard and his long hair, the actor seems to correspond perfectly to the idea that we have of this arrogant and whimsical bounty hunter.

The actor’s style of dress is also reminiscent of that of the DC superhero, thoroughly excessive. Brutal, immoral and blessed with a ribald Duke Nukem sense of humor, Lobo would be portrayed to perfection by Momoa.

Note that Lobo is a Czarnian alien mercenary with superhuman strength and superpowers. His nickname: “the one who devours your entrails and likes it”! That says a lot about the character. After leaving the planet Czárnia, Lobo became a relentless bounty hunter, accepting every possible mission imaginable.

During the Little Nemo and the Dreamworld promotional tour (November 18 on Netflix), the Honolulu native was interviewed by CBR on Lobo. The journalist asked him to blink twice if an adaptation was considered on the side of DC.

“Well, obviously I have to blink, there’s no way I could get away with it without blinking. You know, it would be amazing if that happened,” the 43-year-old entertainer said.

“I’m just happy to have James Gunn at the helm and Peter Safran also at the helm, I love them. So I’m in good hands and I think comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited about what’s going on. arrived”he specified.

“The project is about something that I’ve collected since I was little. The fans know the comics that I collect the most. Without telling you, if you’re a real fan, you know what I collect the most, and you can go back a bit in time to find out”he pointed out, without revealing which character it was.

Jason Momoa therefore maintains the mystery, but his remarks suggest that a Lobo project is indeed on track and that he would be the main performer.

However, the actor is already camping Aquaman, which could perhaps be a problem if the anti-hero were to cross paths with the other DC characters. Nevertheless, a solo film (or trilogy) is not to be excluded, as the character has so much potential, especially embodied by an artist as eccentric as Jason Moma.

In the meantime, Aquaman 2 will hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
