alan arkinrenowned actor Oscar winner in 2007 for his work in ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ has passed away at 89 years at his home in Carlsbad, California. The interpreter developed a Hollywood career of nearly 60 years and went four-time nominee to the Oscar Awards (1967,1969, 2007 and 2013).
The actor’s childrenAdam, Matthew and Anthony have confirmed his death in a statement sent to People magazine. “Our father was a force of nature with a unique talent, as an artist and as a man. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed,” reads the letter shared by his family.
Arkin was an actor known for his characteristic dry humor, in addition to having a great talent to interpret both comic and dramatic roles. The first two Oscar nominations of his career came in the category of best actor in two of his first leading roles, ‘The Russians are coming!’ (Norman Jewinson, 1966) and ‘The heart is a lonely hunter’ (Robert Ellis Miller, 1967).
His first, and only, statuette would arrive in the category of best supporting actor for his hilarious and scathing as well as endearing role of grandfather Edwin Hoover in ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ (Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, 2006), a successful independent film in which he shared the screen with Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear and Paul Dano, among others.
I would add his fourth nomination in the award-winning film ‘Argo’ (Ben Affleck, 2012), in which he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor in a film that won the awards for best film, adapted screenplay and editing at the 2013 ceremony.
A long journey in which other popular titles stand out like ‘Edward Scissorhands’ (1990), ‘Gattaca’ (1997), ‘Rocketeer’ (1991), ‘A couple of three’ (2008) or ‘The Muppets’ (2011). Arkin too he tried his luck as a director with ‘Little Murders’ in 1971 and with the comedy ‘Fires for Sale’ in 1977.
His last works were ‘Dumbo’ remake, which was released in theaters in 2019, ‘Spenser: Confidential’Netflix action movie starring Mark Wahlberg in 2020 and, also on this platform, ‘The Kominsky method’series starring michael douglas thank you Arkin earned two Emmy Award nominations.
